The Greatest Gift

When I was a child, my parents gave me some really cool gifts for Christmas. One of the greatest of these gifts was an Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle. It was AWESOME! You could put that motorcycle (complete with a little Evel Knievel doll) on its platform, wind it up, mash the little release button and off it would go. I would set up ramps for my stunt cycle around the house and send it flying over everything that I could. It also provided an additional way to torture the family cat. This was truly a great gift that brought lots of joy to me as a little boy.
But as great as my Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle was, there is a gift that infinitely exceeds it in every way.
Some 2,000 years ago God gave mankind the greatest gift of all. But this gift wasn’t a fun little toy, but a baby boy whose name is Jesus. Yet, this was no ordinary little boy, for this Jesus born to a virgin in a lowly stable in Bethlehem is both God and man, and He came to bring joy to the world by reconciling sinful man to Holy God through His perfect life and death on the cross.
So as we search for that elusive perfect gift this Christmas season, let’s remember the perfect gift has already been given–His name is Jesus.
