Momma Douglas’ Peanut Butter Bread Candy
1 loaf of bread
1 jar peanut butter
2 pounds powder sugar
Start by pre-heating your oven to 350. Then cut your bread into squares. They can be as large or small as you like. Momma Douglas likes them about the size of a crouton. Place cut up bread on lightly greased sheet pan , keep the layer thin don’t be afraid to use 2 sheet pans if you need to. Place sheet pan in oven and cook 7-10 minutes. Flip bread over and cook an additional 7-10 minutes. Repeat until bread is nice and toasted, it should be a pretty brown. Place in a container and let cool overnight.
Now Momma Douglas has never been much on measuring, it’s better to just eyeball it…. You want to mix equal parts of peanut butter and cooking oil to create a thin coating to completely cover your toasted bread. Mix it with your hands real good to ensure each and every piece is completely covered. Place your coated bread in a double lined paper sack or large Tupperware container with a lid. Cover in Powdered sugar and shake, shake, shake it good. Make sure that sugar gets on all that peanut butter coating. You may need to shake, let sit, and shake again. Break up any “clumps” and shake again. When you think it’s completely covered and your done, shake one more time for good measure then serve with a smile!
