Nursing Home Inducts Hometown Heros into Hall of Fame

Signature HealthCARE (SHC) at The Courtyard recently honored several ‘hometown heroes‘ by inducting them into the facility’s Hall of Fame Café.

SHC at The Courtyard is one of 72 nursing communities operated by Louisville, Ky.-based Signature HealthCARE. The Hall of Fame Café concept was developed and launched companywide as a means of acknowledging the remarkable things residents and staff have accomplished in their lives.

Marianna Fl Nursing Home Relay for Life Team
This weekend, Signature HealthCARE (SHC) at The Courtyard will participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, an international event that has raised nearly $3.9 billion since 1985.

The area Relay for Life event takes place on May 6 and 7 at (location here.) It will be held beginning Friday evening until 8 a.m. the following morning. During the event, SHC at The Courtyard will host a refreshment booth selling snow cones and other refreshments. Barbecue plates with chips and a drink will be available for $4.00, and a shrimp boil with potatoes and sausage will cost $5.00. There also will be live entertainment throughout the night.

Signature HealthCARE at The Courtyard recently became a carnival for a day to benefit some very worthy causes.

During the event, held March 1, staff members and residents enjoyed a cake walk, “putt putt” golf, cotton candy, popcorn and other familiar carnival fare and activities. The carnival served as a fundraiser for the facility’s activities program, and for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Facility Administrator Annette Jansenius and Director of Nursing Amber Gullett were extra supportive of the cause – both agreed to kiss a pig if at least $500 was raised for Relay for Life during the carnival.

Signature HealthCARE at The Courtyard recently held a very special Valentine’s Day dinner for its residents.

During the dinner, residents enjoyed steak, baked potato and salad, and red velvet cake for dessert. Special entertainment was provided by Mr. Roger Whitaker, who sang his favorite love songs.

Residents from each of the facility’s halls were crowned 2011 Valentine’s King and Queen. Mitchell Davis and Blanch Granger were King and Queen for the north hall, and Noah Bush and Mary Gilmore were the honorees from the home’s south hall.

Signature HealthCARE (SHC) at The Courtyard recently held its first annual Learning Congress.

The event was designed to help employees better understand the challenges that residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia face. SHC at The Courtyard is one of 72 nursing communities operated by Louisville, KY-based Signature HealthCARE.

Employees completed a number of tasks during the event. Some were given goggles to limit their vision and put on gloves to simulate the difficulty some patients have with tactile awareness and fine motor capability. Other activities involved putting corn kernels in employees’ shoes (to simulate the experience of having corns, bunions and spurs) and having them wear headphones that played loud, distracting noises to simulate hearing loss and difficulties with hearing aids.

On September 8, 2009, residents and employees from Signature HealthCARE at The Courtyard took a trip on the sunset dolphin cruise in Panama City, FL.   The residents enjoyed a peaceful two-hour cruise were they feed sea gulls, watched dolphins play, and enjoyed the ocean scenery during sunset.After the cruise, residents were treated to supper at Schooners Beach Side Restaurant.  They enjoyed listening to a live band and ate a delicious dinner.  Everyone had a great time and can’t wait to take this trip again soon!  Accommodations such as these are apart of Signature HealthCARE’s Quality of Life program.   Signature HealthCARE strives to revolutionize the long term care industry through a culture of resident-centered healthcare services, personalized spirituality, and quality of life initiatives.
