Our family wants to thank you for your loving care of Flora Askew over the past two years. However, please know that words cannot adequately express our appreciation. The decision to move her into a nursing home was a difficult one to make. We worried that her health would decline due to removing her from her longtime home. Little did we know at the time, but this move would be a blessing to her.
Mother thrived over the last two years, making friends and adopting the staff as family. She liked telling her children and grandchildren about you, the staff at the Courtyard. She enjoyed participating in activities with the other residents but she mostly enjoyed the companionship of the staff.
We know that she felt loved. Our mother was a devout Christian and believed that she would go to heaven. When the doctors told us she wouldn’t make it through the night, we were surprised the next day that she was still hanging on. We wondered what it was that she was waiting for, what business needed to be finished.
After transferring her back to Courtyard, we realized that she was waiting to go home. Home is where you feel loved and safe. The Courtyard had become her home because of all of you.
It meant so much to us that several of you attended her funeral and shared your stories with us. We will forever be grateful to all of you. God bless you and thank you.
